So my family loves dips. It probably has something to do with the fact that we spend every Sunday watching 12 hours of football and eating “football” food, which is almost always chips, dip, wings and nachos! Now I will admit, before I met my hubby I had never had tahini…I mean it sounds a little weird, and in my opinion the stuff you get straight from the jar is GROSS! But after his mom made it for me, I was hooked! It is seriously soooo good, and it has such a unique flavor combination it will impress even your snootiest food friends (because admit it you know you have one…and if you don’t, you are it). It is also the easiest recipe to follow, minimal chopping, measuring and lots of button pushing!
Ingredients:
- 1/2 green pepper
- 1/2 onion
- 2 stalks of celery
- 1 jar tahini
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- 1 cup olive oil
Rough chop the bell pepper, the celery and the onion into smallish pieces and throw them into the food processor (if you don’t have a food processor you can use a blender!).
Chop them up until they are in relatively uniform small pieces…think almost like grated size, something like this…
Now add the rest of the ingredients. I usually add the soy sauce, the lemon juice and the tahini first and blend them together, then add the olive oil. One time I went big and put them all in at once and the liquids escaped the bottom edges of my food processor and made a really big mess…now I work in shifts. I really wish I had some pictures of those steps, but I don’t. The littles were whining at me to hurry up so they could “dip mama, dip” and I was also pretty excited to get to dipping.
However, when it is all blended you just pour it in a bowl and dip away! I like to use celery, carrots, tortilla chips, or crackers…my mother in law uses it as salad dressing! I will warn you that this recipe makes between 2 and 3 jars of finished tahini, so I usually do it around family get togethers or holidays so I can share!
