Disclosure: As part of the DecoArt Blogger Program, I receive product and am compensated for posts; but, all projects, pictures and opinions are my own.
I’ve been at a standstill working on my older daughters tinkerbell room. I wanted to add some art to the walls, but I didn’t want it to be something you could buy at a store. I am also not that great of an artist, so I wasn’t sure what to do! I decided to create some “semi-homemade” Tinkerbell canvas art using both the crayola giant coloring pages and some DecoArt paint.
The first thing I did was purchase a set of two 11″ x 14″ canvases and a set of Tinkerbell coloring pages. I then picked out my favorite page (one of Tinkerbell hugging another fairy- because I am trying to send a subliminal message of kindness and love) and taped it to the inside of the canvas. This is the cheater part, I held that canvas up to a window and traced the outline with pencil. When I was done, I had a beautiful Tinkerbell drawing on my canvas! It took about 10 minutes and is 100 times better than anything I could have free handed.
The next step was painting. This for me was the best part, because I got to play mad scientist with all my paint colors and mix up custom colors for skin tone and hair color. I used a tiny bit of a metallic gold paint in both so in the right light the have a tiny shimmer! I also used the DecoArt glamour dust for the wings, I LOVE the way it added a sparkle and an almost pixie dust effect to that part of the painting. In hindsight, I should have painted the background a solid color ahead of time, but I didn’t, and I am not 100% happy about that, but I don’t have a plan for fixing it, yet. Once I do i will let you know!
While that canvas dried I squirted some paint onto the other canvas and painted it out, blending as needed until the whole thing was covered! I wanted a fun colored background for the quote I was using and this way all the colors of the Tinkerbell painting as incorporated into it as well. You know, so they seem like a cohesive set! Once that was dry I did the same trick as before. I printed off the quote and taped it to the back of the canvas. Then I used my handy dandy paint pen (the same ones I used to create this mural) and traced over it. I also went over all the letters with the glamour dust, because I love that hint of pixie dust sparkle it adds. Again, not totally in love with the way my handwriting looks, but I love the quote!
The last step was hanging them in her room. I chose to hang them in the nook in her room. Someday I hope to make this a cozy “tree fort” type space, but for now it is simply a long skinny nook. So many projects so little time!!
