It’s no secret I love the Pacific Northwest. One look at my Instagram feed and you’ll see it’s peppered with shots from our region. I want to share and nurture that same love with my children so we take a lot of “adventure days” on the weekends. The last one we took was up to Bremerton, WA. Bremerton is a funky little city and the home to the states Naval fleet.
We started our day by heading to the USS Turner Joy. The Turner Joy is a retired Naval Destroyer that has been turned into an interactive museum ship. From climbing in the gun mounts, to manning the wheel, there isn’t much you can’t see, do, touch, or try here.
I think my kids favorite part was the bridge. They all took a turn steering the ship, pushing buttons, turning knobs and blowing the horn! I on the other hand couldn’t help but admire the fancy ropes, worn out paint and other interesting details around the ship!
When we were done exploring the USS Turner Joy we walked a couple blocks down to the Puget Sound Navy Museum. I wasn’t sure how the kids would do, after all they are kids in a museum, but as it turns out they have a fantastic kids play space!
When you first walk up you see this giant black monument, and hiding behind it is the museum itself.
They have a lot of different exhibits that run through the museum. While we were there we got to check out their exhibit on baseball in the Navy. There was also an exhibit all about tattoos! I was so enthralled with that one I forgot to take any pictures! Oops.
The museum also has a STEM program they run on the last Saturday of the month during the school year. You can find out more by checking out their website.
We had such a great time exploring some of the fun things to do in Bremerton and I can’t wait to go again to see some more sights! Have you been to Bremerton? Where should we go next?
