There is something so magical about spending Christmas in the snow, which is probably the reason that when it came time to schedule a winter getaway for my husband and me heading up to Mount Rainer was a no brainer!
We headed up a couple of days before Christmas and as we got further from the ocean and closer to the mountain the snow really started to pile up. I am a huge lover of all things Airbnb, and Mount Rainier is full of lovely places to stay and play.
The snow had been falling for a couple days when we headed up, which had knocked the power out of our little rental. Not being too overly concerned about it, we headed out to explore and wait for the utility crews to work their magic. Let me tell you, that was the best decision ever. We headed out an old forest service road and let the snowy adventure begin.
Along the way we stopped to take some pictures with this handsome devil of a snowman, and of course the obligatory selfie! On our way back down the mountain we saw the most breathtaking blue sunset.
The next day we set out to adventure over to Mineral Lake. The sun was shining and the as we passed over the river the view of Mount Rainier was spectacular! The lake didn’t disappoint either. It was a clear day and the reflection looked too good to be real. But it was!!
The we headed back to the mountain and up yet another long forgotten forest service road to do a little hiking and some more adventuring. The snowy trees were the perfect backdrop to all that awaited us as we climbed higher and higher into the mountains.Once we reached the summit we found the sun shining through and it seemed as though we were on top of the world.
We were fortunate to be there during both a snowstorm of a day and a sun shining day, both of which were exactly what the doctor ordered before heading back down to reality.
If you’ve ever wanted to try an Airbnb, I encourage you to do it! We have stayed at several now over the years and I have yet to be disappointed! Plus if you click on this AIRBNB link you will get $40 off your first stay! You’re welcome. 😉
