About 5 months ago my littlest turned 5 and we threw her the most wonderful Alice in Wonderland tea party. I made tons of fun crafts, created some of my favorite invitations of all time, and even had themed food to go with it! I had high hopes of sharing it all with you right away, but then life got a little busy and I kept waiting for that perfect day to photograph all the things. So of course, I never got around to sharing it.
Today I’m going to show you how I created super simple wonderland inspired arrow decorations using my Cricut Explore Air™ and the draw and cut feature. The first thing you need to know is that this project was the first time I had EVER used this feature, and I nailed it on the first try. I tell you this to illustrate exactly how easy it is to use, not to highlight my awesomeness.
The first step is to get everything laid out in your Cricut Design Space™. I started by selecting an arrow design from the bagillion choices in design space (Arrow #M44B21) and sizing it to about 11 inches wide. This gave me a good amount of space on the long straight part of the arrow to write my words!
Once it was in there I changed the color to pink, just because it was easier to read my text on once I added it. You don’t have to do this, but I wanted to. So yeah. Then I added my words. I knew that I wanted to put a spin on the funky sign from the original movie so I added a bunch of difference confusing directional phrases.
I sized it to almost fill the arrow stem/shaft (what do you call that part of the arrow that isn’t the actual pointed arrow part!?!?) and changed it to draw instead of cut by clicking on the scissors next to the layer and choosing write from the menu across the top.
Then I stuck my paper on the mat and told it to do its thing! It started off by outlining the letters and then went back over and cut the arrows out! Pretty amazing!
Because I did not choose a handwriting font the letters were only outlined, I simply went back and filled them in once they were cut out. Then I stuck them up next to our party table and let the fun begin!
Just in case you wanted to see exactly how the magic happens I recorded my Cricut in action just for you!
