Last weekend was my son’s birthday, how he got to be seven already I have no idea! We had a big Avenger’s themed birthday party planned, but he got himself grounded the week before so we ended up doing a small get together with just our family. It was still a lot of fun and I think he had a great time! I spent a lot of time preparing for the party and the first thing I got started on was the invitation. I knew I wanted something different so I started designing! After a few rough drafts and some major idea shifts this is what I came up with. It totally captured the Avenger theme, and I love that it had a picture of him on it. He was thrilled with how it turned out too!
We have one mantle/shelf in our house that bears the weight of ALL of my holiday decorating and I knew that I wanted to do something special for his birthday. It doesn’t hurt that it is on the wall behind my dining room table (why, I have no idea) where we were going to be doing food and cake! So I found an awesome image online and after turning it black and white, I sent it off to Staples to be blown up into a 2′ x 3′ engineer print! If you haven’t done this yet, DO! It is $3.99 and they are so much fun. We have three others around our house in different spots and each one is such a conversation piece. Plus when I get tired of it (or the kids grow up too big) it is cheap and easy to replace! I also printed off a bunch of 4 x 6 prints of some of the Avengers characters and then attached them to a felt banner. I think it turned out super cute, or really manly depending on who you ask!
My son is lactose intolerant so I always have to look closely when I am shopping for him, but luckily a lot of the boxed cake mixes and frosting at the store is dairy free (how a milk chocolate frosting doesn’t have milk in it is beyond me, but I am not going to think to heavily about it). I whipped up a double layer chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and then printed off these two sided cake toppers. My printer started to run out of ink and so I dot an unintentional ombre effect! Bonus!
Here are a couple of pics of my kiddos eating cake (they really like cake!), and one of my special birthday boy!
