One of my goals for 2013 was to complete six of the projects I had pinned in the last year. The first one I wanted to do was create a new laptop skin. I had been rocking the same sticker on my laptop for about 5 years which is longer than I ever intended! My inspiration came from Clarissa over at Clarissa’sCreativity Space . She used white contact paper and some beautiful patterned papers. I went to the dollar store today to pick up some white contact paper, but they were all out! I ended up with this dark wood grain (and another for when I decide to redo it again) and figured I had something in my paper scraps that would work!

The first thing I did was cut a piece longer than my laptop lid and then lay it on flush with the top of the lid. Then I smoothed it out over the edges and used my xacto knife to slice off the excess. I have a Dell laptop and so the front edge is rounded, which made it really hard to get a clean edge, but whatever! I smoothed and trimmed and ended up with this!
I was almost a little tempted to leave it like this for a while, because it looked pretty rockin’, but that wouldn’t have been completing my pin so I kept going. I used my 1″ and 2″ punches to do the bulk of my paper circles, and used my Slice machine (Making Memories Slice Cordless Design Cutter Machine Starter Set) to cut a couple 3-3 1/2′ circles for interest. Then i laid them out all random on my lid until I was happy with the placement. This was the only tricky part…I took a photo to reference and the started lifting them and mod podging them in sections. This went fairly quickly and before I knew it they were all stuck. Once that layer dried I put another layer of mod podge over the top and waited…impatiently.
After that layer was dry I decided that it was still a little plain so i pulled out some glitter sticker letters and adhered a few words meant to inspire and make me smile, “create” “craft” and “love”. That was it…done and done! Not too hard and officially checked off my to-do list for 2013!

How well does this stick?

VERY well! I left it on for about a year and I was left with some sticky residue when I did remove it. Nothing a little goo gone couldn’t fix though!

That’s a goal I have this year – to actually make stuff I have pinned!! I made a board that has stuff on it I have decided I will make this year. This is a cute idea. I wonder how I could print out my logo for my laptop.

There are a bunch of ways to do your own logo! you could print it and then mod podge it on to your contact paper or you could print it onto adhesive backed paper and stick it directly onto your laptop! Let me know what you end up doing!
