I don’t know about you all, but I hate moving. I hate packing boxes. I hate loading them in a truck. I hate unloading them from that same truck. I tolerate unpacking because it means I get to decide where everything is going to go in my new house, which is kind of fun. I feel like I have been in moving mode for months…so on night #2 in our forever house, I broke out the paint and got busy!
Our laundry room is in the basement (yuck)!
My sweet hubby questioned my sanity, I mean there are still boxes to be dealt with! I assured him that this creative outlet was going to be just what I needed to power through the rest of the unpacking. I started by following the existing horizontal lines of the “bricks” in place already. It was super fast and not to terrible because I was going for a not perfect finished product. Then I randomly placed pieces of tape vertically making different sized blocks with absolutely no pattern. if you know me at all, you will know that this is crazy of me because I love all things symmetrical and even, but I really wanted this wall to be perfectly imperfect!
After the taping was all done I simply opened my cans and started randomly painting squares. After about six blocks were done I realized I might have to put a little bit of thought into placement, but really I just went with the flow and didn’t think about it too much. It ended up taking MUCH longer than I thought it would. I don’t know if that is because I thought it would be super fast or if it was late and I was tired or if it was because the walls had so many cracks, nooks and cranny’s that it took forever to get the paint in them. regardless, it took about 2 hours to do this small wall.
Once I was done painting, I pulled back the tape! I was not about to sit around and wait for it to dry! I pulled away fine and I am in love with the finished product! The only downside is that now I totally need to do the other wall and get some other finishing touches down there!!
So tell me have you ever done anything crazy when you first moved in to a house. Like before the boxes were even unpacked! Tell me about it and let me know I am not the only one who crafts for stress relief!!
