I have a confession. I love to start projects. I get going all crazy like, a million miles an hour and then just when the project is rounding the home stretch I get distracted, tired, bored…whatever you call it, it’s lame. My mind is racing with 100 projects I want to start, but I still have the last 100 left to finish. And finishing them is not a big deal, it’s just the little stuff that’s left. You know the not fun stuff…the boring details.
So right after we moved into our house (2 months ago) I decided that I really wanted to “fun” up our dining room. It’s not a big space, really just a nook off our kitchen, but we eat 3 meals a day there and it was BORING! So I came up with a idea, with the help of my dining room pinterest board. It went a little something like this…
Multi-colored fiesta chairs. white legs on table. Initials or names on seats. Whitewashed table top or stained maybe stenciled with a fun pattern.
At first when I showed my hubby some pics of what this would kind of looked like he said no way. I just kept bringing it up and was lucky enough to have it come up over dinner with friends. My friends hubby (bless his heart) made a comment along the lines of “whatever makes my wife happy is okay with me, it’s just a _______.” My friend says now that he was just saying this, but it was too late! The hubby agreed and even bought me the first can of spray paint.
Now fast forward a month and my table and chairs were still sitting there in their boring, unfinished state. This was partly due to my overwhelming need to start too many projects and a still hazy vision of the final product. However last week the weather turned and all of the sudden it was spray painting season! Pair this with some awesome home depot gift cards my friends got me for my birthday (aren’t they the best!) And it was game on. I knew if I waited for the weekend my hubby might waiver and back out so I painted the first chair while he was at work! Once that one was done there was no turning back!
Now I’m not gonna lie, even still I was unsure which direction it was going. I kept debating between a black/white/lime/aqua theme or going full force into fiesta mode! Well the time came and I jumped in feet first with full on fiesta mode! One looooong day of inhaling too many paint fumes and I had 5 fun colored amazing chairs! The best part, everyone got to pick their color and they look awesome!
I still need to take the legs off the table and paint them and stain the top, but a huge chunk of the project is complete! I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out and I think even my hubby is coming around! 🙂 If you are curious what I ended up doing with that awful light we had in their already check out this post!!

I am thinking those were heavily lacquered chairs(similar to what I have….;) ). Did you need to do any prep work? Or priming?
Ashley says
Hi! The only prep work I did on the chairs was washing the old dried on food stuff my kids left on them! They held up really well! I would suggest putting a clear spray coating on top of the color if you are worried about chipping!

I love the chairs, the finish will be amazing, have to admit I usually have a bunch if things happening because I get bored!

Oh my goodness! I totally LOVE this. All my dishes right now are multi-colors of Fiesta kitchenware because I just love the bright colors so much! I bet those chairs make you so happy every time you walk into your dining room!

They totally do! It makes me smile every time I go into the kitchen and every time we sit down at the table! I wish that we had the fun fiesta dishes too, maybe when the kids finally break all of mine we will upgrade! Thanks for reading!
Kristina says
Yeah, I made the mistake of buying them right after we got married. They will probably all be broken after we go through a couple kids. Oh well.

Well at least you have them to enjoy now!! Plus this just means you will get to pick out some new ones later in life!! 🙂

I can’t wait to see the final! I love all your pins on your board and I think it will be fabulous!

Thanks Sarah! Hopefully I will get the table top stained this week and ready to go by this weekend. Then it’s just hammering down a final piece of art to replace the giant zeppelin poster that is in their right now! 🙂
