I love hummus. It is a staple in our diet, however buying hummus at the store is ridiculously expensive when you realize you could be making it at home for a fraction of the price. It is also super easy and only takes 5 ingredients…yep five!
Hummus Recipe
- 1 16 oz can of garbanzo beans (chickpeas work too) and 1/4 cup liquid from can
- 1-3 tablespoons lemon juice (depending on your tastes)
- 1 1/2 tablespoons tahini
- 2 tablespoon of garlic (crushed/minced whatever)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Start by draining 1/4 cup of the liquid from the can into a measuring cup and then draining the rest down the sink. Dump the can of beans and the liquid into your food processor (or blender) and add all the other ingredients as well. Press the go button and watch it turn into hummus. Enjoy.
Just kidding! Well not about how ridiculously easy it is, that part it real. But this is just the base of the hummus, you can add ANYTHING to it from this point and it will probably be delicious. Since I eat 99.9% of all the hummus in our house I usually just add a bunch of sriracha to mine and call it a day! You can also add sun dried tomatoes, more garlic, olives, avocado, cilantro…you name it you can add it!
Now go make your own hummus and tell me what extras you add in!

So I recently found out I’m pregnant with our last child and needed some healthy snack recipes, saw that my husband had gotten me garbanzo beans, and thought ‘I wonder if I have the ingredients to make hummus?’. I found your blog, and love love love this recipe! My add-ins? Extra pickled garlic cloves, green Tobasco, and 6 Del Taco hot sauce packets, lol! Ate it with low-salt Triscuits. My Toddler chowed down too. Thanks so much for this!

That sounds great! I am a huge fan of green salsa (and any green sauces really) so I can see that being a fantastic addition. I’m so glad you like the recipe, it’s one of our favorites too!
