A while back i talked a little bit about how much my family (especially the hubby and I) love being outdoors. Well summer hasn't quite made it here to the Pacific Northwest, but I am hoping to try and fake it with this outdoor container garden! Shortly after moving in we attempted to turn out overgrown backyard into a relaxing space for both the kids and us. My hubby cut everything back (within an inch of it's life) and I broke out the paint, because well that's what I do. We also put up a safety fence and upgraded our patio furniture! This time I was busy working with Miracle-Gro to create a fun container garden on out outdoor fireplace.
I had such a fun time looking through all of the fun garden projects on the Miracle-Gro Pinterest page! There are so many neat ideas and helpful tricks. I decided to spruce up our outdoor fireplace area with a container garden. It was such a boring and underutilized space before and it was not helping the vibe on the patio!
See what I mean!? It just looks sad and lame and totally forgotten! I looked online at the Miracle-Gro website and got some more info about their products and then headed out. The first thing I did was pick up some funky cans, flower pots and buckets for my containers and then headed to my local home improvement store for some supplies!
One of the smartest things I did was pick up some Moisture Control Potting Mix. This stuff is great because if you are anything like me and forget to water your sweet plants they won't die because the soil knows that you are a sucky rememberer and holds onto moisture so that your plants stay healthy and green! Genius!
So I had this old broken shelf/box thing laying around in the basement (it was here when we moved in) and I thought that it would be the perfect way to add a little visual interest to my container garden. I popped it in the corner and then started potting my plants! Once they were all in their respective pots I gave them a little water and some Shake’n Feed All Purpose Plant Food. Then I got to work setting them up. This is what I ended up with. I think that I will need to add some more layers and some bigger pots in the future, but for now it really livens up that corner of the patio! What do you think?
I am linking my project up over at The Gro Project, come check it out!! And while you're at it watch this video all about Miracle-Gro's Gro Project!!
