So I was going through all my old drafts and found this one from back when I had my “dirty thirty” party! It is a simple tutorial on how to make fun trophies. I used them as prizes for best dressed at my party, but I imagine you could use them for anything! Now that it is summer time you could whip up a couple to use for your own backyard Olympics or obstacle course!
I knew I wanted there to be prizes for dressing up for my birthday and so I went to our local goodwill originally looking for old trophies (bowling, baseball, etc.), but i couldn’t find any! I had to get creative at this point because my party was only a few days away so I headed to the home decor aisle and got those creative wheels spinning. The first thing I found, which totally inspired this whole process was this awesome elephant! I loved the shiny color and the trunk shape.
I grabbed it up and while I was thinking about how to incorporate it into my plans i spotted all the empty candle holders. Well that was that and an idea was born. I hunted through the shelves until I found a candlestick that fit perfectly under the elephants belly. One down only one more to go! I went back to the knick knack shelves and started looking with a renewed purpose. Then I saw him. Hiding in the back, behind some porcelain figurines was this beautiful fish!
I knew that this was it, it was going to be perfect! I quickly paid for my items (less than $6 total) and headed home to get started on this project. This is probably one of the easiest projects I’ve ever done, because all I did was smear a bunch of E6000 onto the candlestick lip and stick the animal figurine on top. I taped the animals to the stick with some painters tape while the glue dried to make sure they didn’t move around, but that was it. The next morning I pulled the tape off and admired their beauty. Originally I was going to spray paint them some fun color, but I decided to leave them as they were because I thought the colors were so great.
This could easily be done with some larger plastic animals for kids (these ones were pretty heavy) and I think that spray painting those would be super fun. let me know if you try it and how it turns out!
