I worked with DecoArt recently to create this fun secret chalkboard message center! One of the products they have out right now is their Chalkboard Coating. They claim it will transform any space into a chalkboard, I was a little skeptical, but I figured it was worth a shot.
We have a HUGE front door, and it has eight panels in it and they looked to me like the perfect spot to write a little note, in fact it is where I usually leave sticky note reminders for my hubby in the morning. He is always asking me to remind him of things in the morning, but he leaves long before I even think about getting up so I end up leaving him notes. However, sometimes those little sticky notes lose their stick overnight and are nowhere to be found by the time he leaves.
I started off by wiping down the door with a damp rag, just to get any dust or grime off of the panels i would be painting. Then I followed the directions on the bottle. I painted all the panels with one coat horizontally, let it dry for an hour and then painted a second coat on vertically. You couldn’t even see it!!
I let that coat dry over night and then took a piece of chalk and rubbed it all over each of the panels. Wiped that off and it was ready to go. I happened to finish on our anniversary so I wrote a little note to my hubby that he would see in the morning on his way to work reminding him of this special day (just in case) and letting him know I loved him! It worked beautifully and now I am dreaming off all the fun things I can incorporate with the upcoming holiday seasons!

Such a cool idea! I really like that, and I’m sure the kids will love that too. I am so jealous chalk board paint wasn’t around when I was little.

It is a lot of fun! The only problem will be keeping my kids from writing on EVERY surface in my house!
