Okay here’s the deal, I love Halloween so much that I might go out on a limb and say it is my very favorite holiday. However (because saying “but” is rude) I can’t get on board with the candy shop craze. I love those uber creative Halloween treats that you see floating around on Pinterest as much as the next girl (or guy), but with three kids at home, school meetings, snack mom duties, laundry/dishes/dinner routine at my own house and let’s not forget the good old raising of children, I don’t have 3-6 hours to spend creating something my kids classmates and teachers are going to shove in their mouth without a second look. Don’t get me wrong, I am not sending my kid to school with just a plain old bag of pre-wrapped candy straight from the store (like I did last year, and maybe even the year before…), but I’m not going to break my back delivering a masterpiece worthy of that ridiculous Food Network show, “Sweet Genius” either. I have collected 10 examples of ways to add a little something extra to your Halloween treat offerings from some like minded folks. Let’s all put our feet down and “just say no” to ridiculous expectations for culinary masterpieces for EVERY holiday.
I Love My Classroom – sometimes candy ISN’T the answer, and when that happens glow sticks are the next best thing!
mud pie studio – printable tags with sweet treats in a zip lock baggie, what’s not to love!
the Idea Room– i love the addition of a milk jug to this one. You could easily peel the label off a coffee drink from the store and serve with this printed bag and a store bought cookie!
Skip to My Lou– a fun treat bag printable for you!
SNAP!– Adding some googly eyes to a plastic baggie filled with popcorn or other goodies…that’s genius!!
Eveyrday Southwest– I envision store bought cupcakes and mini chocolate chips in my future!
Midwest Living – I love this idea! Especially the part about using a nutella type spread and marshmallow fluff so that you don’t have to actually roast anything. Easy enough to stick in a baggie and tie off with twine.
Disney Family– recycle those old cans with some pretty scrapbook paper and make something extra awesome for someone special in your life. I could see doing one of these for a teacher and using a halloween paper!!
I hope these help ease your stress and still leave you feeling like a rockstar. I don’t think that sharing goodies and spreading love should have to leave us feeling exhausted from working to hard or guilty for not working hard enough! What are some of your favorite easy halloween treats?
