As I’ve been slowly updating our master bedroom with small pieces here and there, one thing I knew I wanted to customize was the lamp on my bedside table. Originally it was a pink striped lampshade that was fine when I was young and single, however when I got married having a pink lampshade didn’t really fit the vibe anymore. I found this awesome burlap lampshade at Goodwill (it was a Target cast off – still in the wrapper with price tag) for only $1.99! It went up immediately and stayed plain for weeks months years. When I found the bedding of my dreams earlier this fall I knew it was time to update that old lampshade and make it fit in with the new color scheme of our bedroom. That’s where Americana’s new SoSoft Fabric Paints came into play.
Using the same stencils I had left over from this project I got started visualizing my design. I discovered pretty quickly that the stencils were not going to stick to the burlap so I ended up free handing the flowers and using the stencils to get a rough layout for the ferns. As soon as I opened the fabric paints I loved them! Compared to fabric paint I’ve used in the past this paint had a deep, rich color and went on super smooth. They also come in every single color that regular Americana paints come in and they are mixable so you can truly get your perfect color!
This was probably one of the easiest projects I’ve done in our bedroom (I’m working on a real doozy right now) and I love how it adds just that touch of custom without being too matchy matchy.
