For those of you who don’t know my hubby is an awesome drummer. In his younger days (before a wife and kids) he used to play with some guys and they even recorded an album (not professionally, but still)! Since then his hobby has taken a backseat to work, kids and family life. One of the things we were looking for when we bought our house was a place where he could set up his drum kit and play whenever he wanted. Our house has a full sized basement (over 1000 sqft) and so not only did he get a man cave/jam room we also got so much more! However, his space has been lacking and so we recently started making it a little bit cooler and a more fun place to hang out!
The first step was finding a home for all of his guitars. Even though he is a drummer at heart he still plays a few other instruments and so we have a ton of gear just laying around and not looking awesome. When we pulled the carpet out of the dining room (here) we saved it and found it was an almost perfect fit for his man cave side of the basement. It didn’t quite reach the wall, it was about 2 feet too short, but it was a serious improvement! I convinced him to let me paint the small wall with a rockin’ red color and carried that same color onto the piece of the floor that was uncarpeted. This made a cohesive little space and the start of something awesome.
Over the years we have seen some pretty wicked hand shaped guitar hangers in the back of magazines and floating around the internet, but couldn’t find any that didn’t cost an arm and a hand (hardy har har). Since we needed at least 3 guitars hung we went with the more economical choice at home depot ($0.98/each) and grabbed some hooks. These were not quite wide enough to hold the neck of the guitar so we took some pliers and bent them outward a little bit. Perfect! We attached them into the wall and hung the guitars from them.
Now we have the start of a cool rock n’ roll jam space, the guitars are safely out of the way and look great! I can’t wait to share with you the biggest feature for this space that we are still working on! *If you follow me on Instagram you’ve gotten sneak peeks along the way.
