So last weekend I shared with you that I am trying to add more plants into my house. I am not the best gardener though and my pants usually end up dead. However I’ll never get any where if I don’t try, so over the weekend I set out to create something that I had been dreaming up for a while.
Our local thrift store always has loads of those black metal candle holders that you slip the glass into and then add a candle to. However for the most part they are always missing the glass part to make them functional. I had picked one up a while back mostly because i lived the arched shape of it and knew that i would find some use for it. Turns out these openings are exactly the same size as those tiny little terra cotta pots you can buy at the dollar store! So I hurried over to the dollar store and picked up a couple of packs of these tiny little pots, three for only $1!
I then grabbed a few houseplants from our local Walmart knowing that each plant would fill two of my tiny pots. Once I got home I set about repotting my plans into the tiny pots and sliding them in to the candle holder. It took me about 10 minutes but the result is absolutely stunning!
It is sitting on my dining room table as our centerpiece. The fact that I look at them about 100 times a day had really got to improve their odds of survival right?! So tell me, what brilliant ideas have you had that came out as good in real life as in your head? Any other fun ways to incorporate plants into your home? I feel like I’m on a roll now and I want to add even more!

This is so cute! I’m not a great gardener either. I’m trying to learn because my 5 year old loves it. This would be a great and simple solution.

Woof! I can see one of my crude 1X6 roughsawn cedar planks with four holes drilled at the proper angle as a base for this to make it more stable for outside use as a ‘way cool herb garden! Silicone caulk to anchor the legs in place, a little water seal on the cedar, soak that puppy and let ‘er drip. Maybe a couple of old metal drawer handles at either end to make it easy to turn to face the sun… 🙂
