I don’t know anyone who doesn’t live getting happy mail. As a blogger I’m lucky enough to get my fair share of fun packages, and every time u do it makes me smile. I decided that I wanted to do something to bring that smile to other people’s faces so I am starting a movement to bring back snail mail! Of course this movement needs a creative start so I am going to show you just how easy it is to make your own cards with any image! This is one of those projects that you can customize and make to fit ANY situation! I love projects like that, because the possibilities are endless.
Start off by finding a free image online to use for the front of your cards. I went to one of my go to free image sites and searched for a vintage camera image. I scrolled through until I found one I logged. Once you’ve got your image you’ll need to open Photoshop (you can use any image editing software, this is just my go to) and create a blank image sized 5.5″ x 8.5″. Then resize your image to 5.5″ x 4.25″ and place it on the bottom half of the blank image. I decided that I wanted the back of my card to be a fun color as well so I used the pretty coral color from the image and filled the rest of the space with that color. Now these cards in particular are going to be a secret gift for a special “snap sister” but you could totally add a funny message or a “made by” line on the back as well.
I knew I was going to send them to Staples to print them on a heavier weight paper. I wanted to fit as many as I could on a single sheet so I went with an 11×17 page with three images on it. I printed off two pages for a total of six cards. Then it was as simple as cutting them out with my paper cutter and carefully folding them in half. I have a bagillion envelopes left over from when I ordered our wedding invitations years ago, so I grabbed a few of those and instantly had the perfect little gift all wrapped up in twine! You can pick up a package of envelopes from Amazon for not much if you don’t have any though! Because the only thing I had to pay for was the printing and that was only $4! So go ahead and make your own folded cards and let’s bring back the lost art of snail mail! These would also make great Christmas cards, birthday cards or just because cards! Have you ever made your own cards? Do you love happy mail as much as I do?

It looks like Staples does a pretty nice print job. I’m afraid to use any office stores after a disastrous experience at Kinkos/Fedex. The mail order stuff might be better, but the in-store printing was uuuugly.

I think it really depends on the store. I’ve had some stuff done at a different location and I wasn’t as happy with it. It pays to make friends with the copy/print center staff! The woman who works at our store is amazing!

I love cute cards, but they can be hard to find sometimes. I guess I’m a bit picky. Such a great idea to make your own! I love your bird and camera image! Thanks so much for sharing. Have a great day!

Thanks so much! I am the same way when it comes to picking out cards (and really everything) so it just made sense to make my own!
