There isn’t much my husband likes more than making dinner over open flames in the backyard. I think that there is some sort of grilling gene that he was born with that just escapes me. I enjoy eating BBQ, but there is no part of me that wants to deal with getting the briquettes hot, handling all those slabs of raw meat or making sure it is cooked thoroughly, but not too much. However, the part I do enjoy is finding just the right sauce to go with all those slabs of meat. I’ve got two recipes below that are sure to please everyone and also earn you a few brownie points for thinking outside the stove!
To top it off, because Father’s Day is almost here and I know that shopping for my hubby can be a total pain (he doesn’t even know what he wants) I made some printable BBQ sauce tags to go with each of these recipes. All you need is a small (1 cup) jar and some twine to turn these stellar sauces into the perfect father’s day gift!
Caribbean Jerk BBQ Sauce
I recommend this sauce for chicken!
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/3 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce
- 2-1/2 teaspoons Caribbean jerk seasoning
- 1-1/2 tablespoons spiced rum
In a medium saucepan, add all of the ingredients and simmer over medium-low heat for about 15 minutes or until thick. Once thick, pour your sauce into a small jar and wait until it has fully cooled before screwing on the lid. Then tie your label on with some twine and hide it in the back of the fridge where no one will find it until it’s time to gift!
Raspberry BBQ Sauce
This sauce is dynamite on ribs!
- ⅔ cup honey flavored bbq sauce
- ⅓ cup raspberry preserves
Add both ingredients into a bowl and whisk together until fully combined. Then simply pour your sauce into a small jar and screw on the lid. Tie your label on with some twine and hide it in the back of the fridge (with your Caribbean Jerk Sauce) where no one will find it until it’s time to gift!
Click here to grab your labels! As always if you use them I would love to see a picture! Or come back and tell me if you or the dad in your life loved them!
