Warning: This post is aimed at people (aka bloggers) interested in strategies for growing their Pinterest following. However, some of the information is just plain old good advice for everyone, so don’t leave!
As some of you might remember I attended SNAP back in April. It was such an incredible learning experience and if you are interested in hearing more about it I wrapped up my overall experience here. One of the classes I took focused specifically on Pinterest. It was an amazing class and one that I learned an incredible amount of information from. Here’s how I took that information and implemented it in a way that give me the most bang for my buck!
- Set a timer for 10 minutes. I use a countdown timer on my phone, but an old fashioned kitchen timer works just as well.
- Start scrolling through Pinterest. You can scroll through your regular feed, the explore tab or even what’s popular. Whenever you find a pin you like open it up in a new tab, but don’t actually look at it, just keep scrolling. Do this until you have about 10-15 pins open in new tabs.
- Now go back and check out those pins you opened. Are they the original source? Are the images bright and clear? Great! Pin 8 of them directly from the source onto the appropriate board. Now here’s the time you want to make sure you aren’t pinning all food/crafts/clothes/inspirational quotes. Nobody likes their feed to be flooded with too many of the same thing all at once, so keep it varied!
- Go to your own site and find 2 posts you want to promote. Pin one image from each of those pins to the appropriate Pinterest board.
Now you are going to do this twice a day for only 10 minutes each time. I suggest doing it once in the morning and once in the afternoon/evening so that you are able to catch two different sets of pinners. The timer will keep you from getting sucked in to the Pinterest black hole of no return!
Why, you might wonder, am I asking you to pin from the source and not repin? Well friends amazingly 80% of the pins you see on Pinterest are repins. By pinning from the original source your name is stuck to that pin for its whole lifetime, long after it repins away from you! This means that you will have that many more opportunities for people to find you (and your site) than if you just quickly hit that repin button! Also, it’s good practice to make sure that the content you are promoting is coming from a legit source. We’ve all heard the horror stories of sites that exist just to steal all of your images and put them up on their site. When you don’t check the source of your pin you risk passing on these spam sites pins and stealing all that traffic away from the person who spent hours putting it together originally!
So give this method a try and let me know how it works for you! I bet that you start to see growth almost immediately! Of course I won’t be sad if you want to follow me on Pinterest right now, just click on the button below!

Thank you for this post. Have you any tips how to grow instagram followers? Are there any third party apps – boosters – for printerest as zengram.net, which increases real IG followers?

I love the tip about Pinning and original instead of Repinning. That makes complete scene.
I started late on the Pinterest train and I think this tip alone will be huge for me.
Take care!

These tips are great! They’re so simple, but that’s the best part! Just a few minutes a couple of times a day can really go a long way. I also am a big fan of pinning directly from the source. There have been so many times I’ve repinned an image only to go back later and have it linked to nothing!

Thanks for the tips! I’ve heard to pin from the source, but I never knew the reasoning behind it. I’ll definitely start doing this, and I love the timer idea. Too many fun things to look at on Pinterest!

This is a great idea!! I like that you do it twice and have a time limit each time. I have a problem about just staying on pinterest forever. I would love it if you linked this up to my Motivate Me Monday linky party at IT’S A ginger SNAP.
