This turkey here is a Thanksgiving Tradition in our home and always so much fun for the kids. They are beginning to get older and I would have thought they wouldn’t be interested in doing it but my son and daughter have already been talking about doing it Thanksgiving morning with their grandmother this year. I really think they eat as much as they make the turkey. We should name our Turkey, but for some reason we haven’t yet, but this is one of our favorite appetizers and it’s a great centerpiece for the kids table or the appetizer table. I have never actually counted how many picks we use or pieces of cheese and grapes but I can tell you what we buy, and it’s always enough, even after everyone has eaten and eaten while making it.
What you will need:
- 1 white Pumpkin
- 1 peace / or you could use a potato if you find on shaped right
- 2 red peppers
- 2 yellow peppers
- 4 bags of cubed cheese/ or buy block and cut your own
- 2 bags of grapes
- toothpicks
- wood skewers
- 2 rounded push pins
Use two skewers, you may need to cut them but push them into the pear and then push into the pumpkin to make the Turkey Head. Start making the big feathers. Use the skewers and start a grape/cheese pattern, make sure to leave enough room to stick into the pumpkin. (The little ones will probably need your help doing this) Once you have as many as you would like added, start on the smaller feathers (peppers) Cut the top off of the Red Pepper and make feet, by cutting a jagged edge and sticking under the base of the pumpkin. You can then slice the rest of the red pepper into small strips to stick onto toothpicks and into the pumpkin. When cutting the Yellow Peppers make sure to cut a triangle from the pepper for the turkeys face. Cut the remaining yellow pepper into strips just like the red pepper, to place onto toothpicks and into the pumpkin. Once you have the feather all in. make the face of the turkey using 1 red pepper strip, the yellow cubed piece, and the 2 rounded end push pins.
