This year we have decided to host the worlds biggest sleepover for New Year’s Eve. We have invited all of our kids friends (yes, ALL of them) over to our house to celebrate the new year in style. We figure that if the kids are having fun, we will be left alone long enough to reflect on the year and to make goals and dreams for the upcoming year. One of the things we want to do to help make this event special for both ourselves and our kids is create a fun drink for everyone to enjoy and toast with. I’ve come up with two drinks, one alcoholic and one non-alcoholic, that use similar ingredients so you can minimize trips to the store and fancy schmancy purchases. In fact I got everything I needed for both of these drinks at my local Safeway (including the fancy glasses!)
Fidel Castro (adults only)
- 1 1/2 ounces dark rum
- Juice from 1/2 lime
- Canada Dry Ginger Ale
Add the rum to your glass of choice, because of the event I went with a fancy wine glass, but really anything will work. Add the lime juice and fill with ginger ale. Enjoy!
Shirley Temple
- 10 ounces Canada Dry Ginger Ale
- 1 ounce grenadine syrup
- Ice
Fill your glass with ice and add the ginger ale. Top with the grenadine and add a fun straw, then enjoy! Find more fun holiday drink recipes and entertaining tips!
These drinks are sure to get your kids excited about toasting to the amazing year they’ve had and encourage them to think of things they want to accomplish in the new year! To go along with these fun drinks I’ve created a fun printable to help you (and your kids) reflect on the past year and look forward to next!
