We have been gearing up for the big game at our house ever since football season started. Rooting for our team and keeping a watchful eye on the competition. What this really means is that we have been hosting a lot of “homegating” celebrations and I was ready to kick it up a notch. Normally we serve chips, dips, wings and the like but rarely do I ever make dessert item or a treat. I decided to change that as we amp up for the end of the season and created a sweet spread to go with our usual savory favorites. The first thing I did was create a simple SNICKERS® cake.
I started by chopping a 12 pack of SNICKERS fun size bars into bite sized pieces. Then I employed my secret weapon. See I’m not a baker, I like to bake occasionally and I can make a mean cake, but my frosting NEVER looks as good as I think it should. So I called up my local Walmart bakery and asked if they could whip me up an undecorated cake. They were a little confused, but said yes. So while I shopped for all my toppings they whipped me up a plain cake. I took my plain cake home and started slowly pouring caramel sauce directly into the middle of the cake. I wanted it to spread evenly over the edges so I went nice and slow waiting for it to get just the right kind of perfect. As soon as the caramel started to drip over the edges I added all those bits of chopped up SNICKERS bars. I gently pressed them into the caramel and then brushed all the chocolate dust from chopping on top.
I know that not everyone loves chocolate (crazy folks!) so I wanted to have a fruity alternative as well. While I was grabbing my SNICKERS I also grabbed a big bag of Skittles® and some marshmallows. While I was chopping up the SNICKERS I set my kids up with the big bag of Skittles and five small bowls. I tasked them with separating all the different colors so that we could create a sweet treat for them. Once they were done I put one color at a time into my mini food processor and ground them up into a Skittle powder.
Then I stuck a regular marshmallow onto a lollipop stick and dipped it into a cup of water. I pulled it out and rolled it into the Skittles powder.
So now that I’ve shared my game day dessert recipes with you, I’d love to hear what you plan on making for the Big Game! Leave me a comment below.

OMG – I’m one of those that do not care for chocolate but if that is a white cake under that frosting and that to die for caramel – I’m having some of that cake. Thank you!
