I spent most of my winter break fixing up my pantry (don’t worry the reveal is coming soon) and it left me feeling like my kitchen was needing a little attention too. My hubby must have been feeling the same way because he bought me a box of small Ball jars and a bunch of spice lids to go with them. And as if that wasn’t fortuitous enough, my father in law gave me a super rustic old crate that he found in his garage. It was in an a wave of after Christmas organizational momentum that I decided to tackle this project. I mean after all January is National Get Organized month!
I started by posting this picture on Facebook asking for ideas and suggestions on how I could label these jars. You guys had a lot of really great ideas and so when I was given the opportunity to try out the Brother P-Touch Label Maker I jumped on it.
I opened up the box and was amazed at how compact the machine was. For such an awesome little piece of technology it sure doesn’t take up much space. In fact it’s not much bigger than my cell phone, but everyone makes fun of how big my cell phone is…
I started off by taking my 12 most used spices and transferring them into the jars. I topped them with the special lid and then go busy typing up labels. There are so many settings on the P-Touch that I was able to try out a bunch of different fonts, spacing and designs before settling on a straightforward font with two lines for most of the spices. Just a few of the awesome features of this machine:
Main Features
- One-touch keys – quickly access fonts, symbols, frames and patterns
- Graphical Display – see how your label will look!
- 8 professional fonts for label variety
- Uses laminated, “TZe” tapes up to 12mm wide – great for indoor or outdoor use
- Easy-access memory, store up to 30 “Favorite” labels
- Includes more than 600 symbols and 95 frames
- 12 Deco Mode patterns, plus 6 name badge designs
- Print 1 or 2 lines of text
- Split-back labels for easy peel and stick
Once I had all my labels printed I simply split the back of the label off and stuck them on my jars. The second half of this project was replacing my “temporary” spice rack from two years ago with the funky old crate that my father in law gave me. I pre-drilled holes in the inside corners of the crate and then screwed it directly into the wall. Then I stacked the jars inside along with the cooking spray. I discovered that our pepper grinder and olive oil jar were both too big for the crate so I will be upgrading those soon as well. It’s so much more fun to look at than the old shelf and it really goes with the funky rustic feel that we are working toward.
As a bonus Brother is giving away a P-Touch label maker every day in January as well as a Grand Prize pack worth up to $2000, go here to enter and find out more.
