Ever since I stopped staying home with my kids and started working full time I have been looking for ways to get my quality time with them back. I used to take for granted all the fun things we did because it was smushed in with all the mundane and exhausting parts of being a stay at home mom. One of the things my kids have always loved doing is helping me in the kitchen. I am kind of a control freak in the kitchen though so I was looking for an easy and low stress way to involve them in some cooking fun. I was picking up a birthday present for my daughter at Walmart last week and saw that the M&M’s® Crispy were back and that sparked a genius idea. I decided to grab a big bag (three kids means we need as many as possible) even though the little checkout sized ones only have 180 calories and all the supplies to make some rice crispy treats.
I whipped up the rice crispy treat mixture and then brought the bowl full of goodness out to the table. Now the very first thing I learned in this was that rice crispy mix is STICKY! So I sprayed everyone’s hands with some non-stick spray. Including mine. This means I have no pictures for what I am about to describe to you. I brought out some plastic Easter eggs for reference and then had the kids roll the sticky mess into egg shapes. Then I gave them the bowl full of M&M’s® Crispy and a tub of marshmallow fluff to act as glue and let them decorate their eggs with the brightly colored candies! You would have thought it was Christmas for how excited they got!
My son of course was very meticulous with his decorating, while my daughters were a little more willy nilly with their candies (and I’m pretty sure a fair amount went straight into their mouths!) However, they all had a blast and it was the perfect way to cook with my kids and also keep my blood pressure in check.
