I have made the executive decision to call the winter season over and done with. That means putting away all the clunky snow boots, packing up puffy coats, and going through the glove and mitten bin to see how many matches we are left with.
At the end of every winter season our house has at least 1 or 2 lone cotton gloves remaining. These are the kind that cost about $1 a pair and were usually an emergency purchase. You know the thing where you get to your destination, realize it is 20 degrees colder than you plan for, and run to the nearest Target for their $1 bin gloves? That thing? These gloves are the remnants of those times.
With my seasonal executive decision in place, I decided to put those lonely single gloves to use by turning them into Glove Puppets. This craft is very easy and extremely adaptable. You can stitch faces directly on the gloves, put them on with fabric paint, or just decorate felt and paper scraps and tack them to the gloves.
Materials
- Gloves
- Paper/Fabric scraps
- Pen/Marker
- Double sided tape
- Scissors
How To
1. Cut circles out of paper or felt.
2. Tape them to the tips of the glove fingers.
3. Draw faces on the paper with your pen or marker. If you are using felt, cut out face shapes and glue them to the circles. Need some ideas? Pick characters from a story like The Three Little Pigs or Little Red Riding Hood. You or your kids can tell the story with the finger puppets. You could also make each face a different member of the family or just pick random animals. Here you can see I did The Three Little Pigs and Farm Animals.
4. Slip on the glove and start telling a story.
