This is one of those projects that came about out of necessity. I updated and decorated our front porch after we first moved in a couple of years ago, complete with a cozy wicker chair and a some funky flower planters, but I kind of left my sweet hubby sitting on the steps. After complaining about it every warm summer night for the past two years I finally decided to do something about it. I am not kidding when I tell you this project took me 15 minutes. I wish I had thought of it sooner, because I could have been spared all the whoa-is-me (is that how that is even spelled?!?!) drama for all those years.
I had a very exact space that I was working with so I took careful (measure 18 times, have the Home Depot guys cut once) measurements. I had exactly 42″ to work with so I only needed one 4″x4″x10′ post. If you have a bigger space or you want a larger bench, you may need more. Don’t worry though, it is still a super fast project. So, I went to Home Depot and picked up a post (affilliate link – this one) and 6 cinder blocks (affilliate link – these ones). If you want your bench to be longer or taller or different in any way, you might need more blocks. Use your judgement. Put it together in the store and test it out.
Once you have your supplies, head on home. Put your blocks down on one end. Slide your posts into the openings. Slide your other blocks onto the other end. Push it into place and adjust your blocks so they are on the very far ends.
Now if you are like me, you might have some leftover post. I chose to screw mine into the middle of the two posts that are supported by the blocks. For extra support and comfort. You don’t need to do this, but what else will you do with leftover posts? No really, let me know. I can always go buy another for a good project! BTW, do you see how many “helpers” I had for this project!!
Top it off with an outdoor pillow and you are done!
