I received a gift card to Expressions Vinyl for this post. I would have bought my vinyl from them anyways, because they are awesome. Just wanted you to know.
Even though it’s summer and I’ve been trying to focus on my kids and not school, I’ve still been coming up with small projects along the way. One thing I did last year was send a letter home to my upcoming students with a quote from the first book we were going to read in it. This year since I’m moving into a be classroom in a new building I had a blank slate. Unlike my room last year this year my classroom is in an open air courtyard instead of inside the building.
I already added a GIANT “hello” to the outside of my door so I decided to dress it up a bit by adding a quote from this year’s first novel right inside the door. You know, in that spot that my students will see EVERY SINGLE TIME they go to leave. We are starting the year of reading “Gathering Blue” by Lois Lowry. I chose a quote that captured both the feeling of the book and also my feelings toward my students.
“It’s not true. I need all of you. We need each other.”
― Lois Lowry, Gathering Blue
I simply typed it up in my silhouette software and cut it out with my machine. I applied it to my door and then stepped back to admire it. The nice thing about the vinyl is that it won’t damage my wall (so my administration won’t get mad) and you can easily change it up either each year or for each new book. This also makes makes it the perfect craft for a kids room (they change their minds all the time) or even for renters. So the next time you want to fill up a big blank space try adding a vinyl quote instead of art.
