With Halloween right around the corner it’s time to start planning your perfect Halloween outfit, and although a lot of people say that adults shouldn’t dress up (foolishness!), simple face makeup is always okay! With woodland creatures on my mind I decided to have my sister turn me into a sweet doe. It was a simple enough process and the best part was that I didn’t have to go out and buy any special creams or makeups to make it happen. Although if you don’t have a stash of old makeup you can always swing by Walmart and grab some on the cheap (while you are there make sure you pick up a pack of Neutrogena Makeup Removal Cleansing Towelettes!)
A few years ago I dressed up as red hooded lady, my husband as a wolf and my littlest as pig. As the mom of two little girls who now absolutely love princesses I really wanted to make sure that no matter who they decided to be, I could go along with them. This year they are debating between some of their favorite princess ladies and the one thing that almost all princesses have in common is their ability to communicate with animals.
Now most of those animals are woodland creatures. Birds, squirrels, mice, and deer to name a few. Of all those, the idea of getting all doe-eyed and dewy was the most appealing. I also really like that I can still dress up in my normal clothes (which are significantly warmer than most costumes), because let’s face it, Halloween time here in the Pacific Northwest can be kind of cold!
A couple of simple accessories really set this one off. I added a gold leaf headband and some gold earrings. If you have the time and energy you could easily make a couple of ears out of felt and a glue gun and bobby pin them into your hair. A word of caution though, as cute as they look when stuck in your hair, female deer do not have horns, so try to refrain from adding twigs to your do! 😉
Step 1: Start off with a fresh and clean face!
Step 2: Start by applying either a dark bronzer or a dark brown eye shadow to the top 1/3 of your face swooping down to your cheekbones and again to your chin line.
Step 3: The next step is to use a light or white eye shadow to fill in the parts of your face that you didn’t already cover in the dark shadow. Then using a very pale concealer or white eyeliner add some spots to the edges where the dark shadow meets the light.
Step 4: Lastly you are going to add the contour lines. Using a dark brown eyeliner pencil trace down either side of your nose and up into and through your eyebrows. Also color the tip of your nose (and the underside) with the same brown pencil. Add some heavy black eyeliner to your top lids along the lash and finish up with a heavy dose of black mascara.
Once that’s all done let your hair go au natural, a little wilder and floofier than usual. I topped it with a golden leaf headband I picked up last week while shopping for my daughters birthday. Now all you need to do is find some foliage to hide in.
Now no one wants to go to bed with all that makeup on, and sometimes the thought of scrubbing it all off at the end of a long night seems daunting. No worries though, because I tried and tested several different methods and found that these Neutrogena Makeup Removal Cleansing Towelettes did the trick with just a few simple swipes. They even removed the super, duper, extra waterproof black liner we used. AMAZING!! I picked up a bottle of the Neutrogena Ultra-Light Cleansing Oil just in case, but I didn’t even need it for this!

What a super cute makeup look! I always hesitate from doing any costume makeup but I love that you can do this with regular cosmetics! #client
