I love everything about Halloween, and recently I have become really interested in the DIa de los Muertos. One of the aspects to this Mexican celebration is the creation of sugar skulls. I wanted an easy way to share this beautiful type of art with my kids and my readers so I decided to come up with a couple different versions of masks.
I have four today that are printable in black and white so that you can color them yourself. Download HERE.
No matter which one you choose to use the directions are the same. Print the mask of your choice on a heavy cardstock paper. This will help keep it from ripping while you wear it as a mask. After it is printed out, you will need to cut around the outside edges until you are left with just the skull. If you are planning on wearing this as a mask you will also need to cut the eyes out (you know, so you can see).
I have added a black tab to each side of the masks so that you do not have to worry about ruining the design in order to create your mask. You will need to punch a hole through each of those black tabs. Then cut a length of ribbon or string or whatever or material you have for attaching them to your face.
If you aren’t super excited about the idea of wearing a mask you can always leave the eyes in tack and glue a popsicle stick the bottom back and hold it like a masquerade mask in front of your face.
This would also make great decorations for your Halloween display and an unexpected addition to any traditional skeleton.
