One of our holiday traditions is to fill the kids up a mug of hot chocolate and head out on a holiday decoration adventure. This year I decided to create a fun scavenger hunt checklist for our adventure. The kids each got their own holiday scavenger hunt checklist (a picture one, because I have little ones) and a mug of cocoa and we were off!
I also decided this year to upgrade our cocoa experience and I created a few different cocoa melts. The really nice thing about these is that you simply warm your milk and drop in your cocoa flavor. Then you stir it up and, BAM, instant homemade cocoa. I am sharing my “secret” recipe with your here today along with a printable scavenger list for your own holiday adventure.
Hot Chocolate Melts
- Silicone mold
- Chocolate bar
- Mix Ins (Crushed candy cane, toffee bits, marshmallows)
Start by adding your mix-ins to the bottom of your molds. When you are done with that, melt your chocolate in a microwave safe dish. Once your chocolate is melted (it only takes a minute or so) pour into your mold on top of the mix ins. Scrape it over and try to fill each of the stars fully. You might need to use a toothpick or pointy knife to get the chocolate into all the corners. Freeze your mold for at least an hour. Remove and store in an airtight container.
These also make great gifts, but be warned they will get gooey if you leave them at room temperature for too long!
