Now I’m not going to say that these are healthy, but really and truly, they kind of are. I mean the fries (if you choose the same ones I did) are 98% fat free, the chili is 99% fat free and so is the sour cream. Really the only bad thing on these bad boys is the cheese, and there isn’t even that much! So yeah, I’m going to say they are pretty good for you.
Now it’s football season around here (probably around your house too), which means that there is a lot of reason to be eating some not so good foods. There is also a reason to be preparing foods that can be snacked on while the game is going on. Luckily these fries are easy to make, easy to eat and easy on the stomach! It doesn’t get much better than that!
Chili Cheese Fries
- Fries (I used the Alexia brand, because I can pronounce all the ingredients)
- 1 can of Chili (I went with vegetarian chili in a can, but I have a great chili recipe here)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- finely chopped cilantro
Now the first thing you need to do is bake your fries. This is the time consuming part. Luckily once you stick them in the oven you can do whatever you want with that time. So watch the game, read a book, fold some laundry – just kidding about that last one, who actually folds laundry?!?!
Once your fries are baked to crispy perfection, remove them from the oven. You are going to want to spread them out onto a serving dish, large cutting board or whatever else you have around your house. They taste great no matter what dish you serve them on. Then heat up your chili. I used the whole can for about half a bag of fries, but you can make them heavier or lighter depending on your taste. Sprinkle the cheese over the top and stick them in the oven under the broiler to melt the cheese. Now whatever you do don’t walk away. That broiler is serious business and it only takes a couple of minutes to go from melty goodness to oven fire. Once the cheese is sufficiently melted, add a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of cilantro. Make sure to serve these with a fork, because the chili makes it hard to eat with your hands!!
