I’ve been slowly but surely getting some ideas together for Valentine’s day. I’m pretty sure I’ve got the kids covered (and then some), but when it comes to doing something special with my hubby I was at a loss. I kicked around a bunch of ideas, but finally landed on what I think is a winner. Valentine’s day this year is on a Saturday, and since it is already one of the hardest days to get a babysitter I wanted to make sure to do something that didn’t involve leaving the house.
This romantic Valentine’s day basket was probably one of my more genius ideas. It combines an at home date night, with fun snacks, and a little romance…the adult kind. This basket took me about 15 minutes to throw together, so it is totally doable last minute and it is sure to get your partner excited about a night in.
I started off by making a batch of plain popcorn. We have an air popper so I just filled it with kernals and let it do its thing. While it was popping I melted some Hershey’s Kisses and chopped up some sweet Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Hearts filled with Caramel. Once the popcorn was done I spread it out over a baking sheet that was lined with wax paper. I started by sprinkling the chopped up candies onto the popcorn and then drizzled the melted chocolate over the top. I also drizzled a layer of caramel, because salty caramel is amazing! I then sprinkled some sea salt over the whole thing. The melted chocolate bonded the candy to the popcorn and created a sweet and salty snack.
Once the popcorn was ready I packaged it up in these cute little fry boxes that I grabbed from Pick Your Plum earlier this year. I bagged those up in some cello bags and tied them off with some ribbon. Then I added the rest of the treats. I popped in a couple bottles of hard root beer, some more chocolate and a couple of dvd’s. At our house we have a 3 to 1 movie rule. One of us picks three movies we want to watch and the other person chooses the one they want to watch from those three. This has saved us from a lot of marital arguments because everyone feels like they’re winning.
Now before I added all my treats to the basket I laid down a layer of Hershey’s Kisses, each with a little sticker on the bottom. Each sticker named an article of clothes, and as we snacked on the candies and watched our movie we started slowly shedding some of our winter layers. Also tucked in to the bottom of the basket was a pack of breath mints so that there would be no self-conscious breathing into the hand moves once the movie ended.
The warm fuzzies of the hard root beer, the allure of the chocolate and the subtle shedding of clothes is a sure fire way to spark a romantic ending to ANY at home date night. For even more way to Celebrate with Hershey’s check out their page, full of Valentine’s Day baskets and more!
