A few years ago one of my good friends turned 30 and we celebrated with an amazing Harry Potter themed party. A few months ago that same friend had the cutest little baby boy and I knew that I had to make him something that would capture his parents love for Harry Potter. It also happens to be time for Marissa’s annual Harry Potter series! Make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom for the amazing giveaway!
You might say that my family is Harry Potter obsessed. My son read all seven books when he was in 3rd grade, and as he finished each of them we watched the corresponding movie as a family. He decided to reread the series again this summer and rather than wait for him to finish them all we decided to binge watch the whole series over the course of a week. So needless to say I’ve had Harry Potter on the brain!
For this project you only need 4 things: onesies or shirts, heat transfer vinyl, a cutting machine and an iron. I recently got a Cricut Explore Air and I have to say that it has changed my life. I have had a Silhouette for a couple of years, and it was always a little finicky. Sometimes it wouldn’t cut, and manually adjusting the blade every single time I used it was annoying. Especially since it never seemed to be right. I probably got a bad one, because everyone I know loves theirs, but I am a loud and proud Cricut fan now! First off, you NEVER have to adjust the blade. There is a knob on the top of the machine and you use it to select your material. The machine takes care of the rest.
I did a quick google search for the sayings I wanted. and uploaded them into the Cricut software. I sized them appropriately and loaded the vinyl and the mat. Because I selected iron on for my material I didn’t have to mirror my image, Cricut automatically asked if I wanted them to do it for me. Seriously, amazing. Anyway. I hit go and the machine did the rest!
Once they were cut, I weeded the design out and placed them on the onesies. Because the vinyl isn’t sticky you can move and rearrange it until you get it right where you want it. Once you’ve got it all ready to go, get your iron HOT! Press your iron onto the design and give it about 30 seconds to a minute to set. That was that, and they were PERFECT!
