Last year I participated in the So You Think You’re Crafty competition, and while I didn’t win, I did get a chance to make a lot of really fun projects. Today I am sharing these simple wood burned cutting boards, which would make a fabulous gift this holiday season!
I found these awesome wooden cutting boards at World Market and knew that I wanted to use those to create my own spin on a traditional butcher block. I found these awesome butcher cut prints and knew that my butcher block boards had to be paired with the butcher cuts print. It was meant to be! I started by printing a clean copy of the butcher print. This would also be a great addition to the cutting board. I framed my prints and gave them with the board for a little extra something!
I used a pencil to lightly sketch out the cuts onto the cutting board. Then I realized that I was going to need a wood burning tool for this job. So I made a late night run to the craft store an hour away (because remember I was in a contest!) I picked up this wood burning tool and I LOVE it. It burns like a hot knife in butter and the whole process of wood burning only took about 15 minutes with the tool.
I absolutely love how these turned out and in fact I gave them away as gifts last Christmas. I saw that World Market has a bunch of new wood shaped cutting boards and I think that I might need to grab a couple more to burn in family names, or catchy phrases. Maybe, a little “hot diggity dog” on this dachshund, or a “happy holidays” on this tree! There are about a million different possibilities and the sky is the limit when it comes to personalizing this project for you and your friends and family!
