You might remember that I’m originally from eastern Washington, and each summer we try to take a trip back to my hometown of Winthrop, WA. This summer was no different and I wanted to share a little bit about the area with you!
Because we travel over during the summer we always take Highway 20 over the northern part of the Cascade mountains. It is an absolutely stunning drive and one that reminds me so much of childhood trips to the coast to go shopping.
Once we got to Winthrop, it was time to settle in for the evening, because driving anywhere with 3 kids is exhausting, but even more so when it is 7 hours of driving!! I think the best part for the kids was driving into town. Seeing all the false fronts, wooden sidewalks, and false remnants of an old west town really got them excited!
On Sunday we took a drive around the valley, so I could show everyone my favorite scenic views. My husband is absolutely in love with the area and spent much of our trip trying to convince me that we should move back. The kids caught on and then they started bugging me about why we couldn’t move back. It was a total gang up on mama party all weekend!
Sunday night my mom stayed home with the kids and we headed out for dinner and a date to celebrate our anniversary. We ate amazingly good mexican food at Carlos 1800 and then headed off to relax and enjoy the sunset.
Overall it was a really nice trip “home” although an incredibly short one! And for the record I’m a total western Washington convert, there’s no going back for this girl!
